Anies Baswedan to Revamp Sidewalks in Kemang

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan said that his administration planned to revamp the area of Kemang, South Jakarta. The renovation, he added, would focus on widening the sidewalk lane.

“It will look alike as sidewalks in Sudirman-Thamrin area, so the lane will be convenient and big. The road width will not see much differences, relatively the same,” said Anies in the Jakarta Legislative Council (DPRD) building, Central Jakarta, Wednesday, February 20.

According to Anies, Kemang's residents and South Jakarta Mayor Marullah had canvassed the plan. Currently, the design has been drafted and published to the public.

Anies mentioned that three to four meeting would be further held until the construction begins.

The plan to revitalize Kemang area, Anies recalled, was brought up since it was a potential area for tourism site but it was renowned as a traffic-prone area, particularly during weekends.

“We hope Kemang will be a good tourism site,” Anies noted.

The program will be commenced from South Kemang to North Kemang until roads heading to Jalan Prapanca. However, Anies Baswedan stopped short to detail when the construction will begin.

Jakarta Bina Marga road agency head Hari Nugroho said that the renovation program in Kemang aimed at providing convenient for pedestrian and disable community, as well as the lane for bicycle and easy access to public transportation.
